T.J. Rooney is the former chair of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party and a former member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He is a graduate of West Essex High School in North Caldwell, New Jersey. He attended Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina.〔 He was first elected to represent the 133rd legislative district in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1992. He was named runner up for the 2003 Politician of the Year by the political website PoliticsPA, who noted the statewide success of the Democratic party, who won five of six statewide judicial races and helped elect Dan Onorato and re-elect John Street. He retired prior to the 2006 elections.
